It’s been a while since I last wrote about my days, hasn’t it? Let’s fix that.
In recent weeks, I’ve been busy with a fresh shop update – summer-themed postcards, including a slightly sarcastic new series called Postcrossing Truths. It’s made to poke fun at ourselves a little and to gently highlight just how dramatic we can sometimes be about this sweet hobby. Not everyone was thrilled, though – the Postcrossing creators weren’t big fans. Oh well. The series is limited anyway, because what feels funny today might lose its charm tomorrow.
We ended May very slowly. After counting expenses and reminding myself that I need to leave some room for future product production, I can say that May paid for my office rent and utilities at home. That’s it. So yes, I’ll be skipping that extra takeaway coffee this month. ¯\(ツ)/¯
June isn’t looking much better so far. I’d love to order a new batch of postcards – the designs are ready and I truly love them – but the income side is still… struggling. Maybe a few little promos like the grab bags will help. Speaking of which, I’ve been quietly working on a new project. The idea itself isn’t revolutionary in the world of cute stationery, but I’m pouring a lot of heart into this tiny, limited-edition set. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do! Now it is my small secret, but I hope to start announcing it soon.
Creating this product makes me so happy and motivated that I’m happy even if I don’t sell a single unit. Sometimes you have to do something for yourself and from the heart.
Last week, I spent a good chunk of time cutting stickers in my office. I’m preparing early for the Advent calendar, knowing that autumn will be intense. The last week of August, we’ll be in Hungary for a SAR dog training camp, and in mid-September, there’s a seminar planned in Austria. That means shipping breaks, and I want to be ready. Also I am making new products for the upcomming update.

And speaking of SAR, we just spent the past weekend in Latvia, in yet another training camp. Honestly, I can’t even remember the last time I had a weekend that was just for relaxing. If we travel, it’s usually search dog related. If we don’t, I work, because as a small business owner I am struggling with the balance of rest and do something for my shop.
So yes, those are my days. And now – time to answer the rest of your Q&A questions (finally!).
- Have you ever tried speed puzzling? If so what is your fastest time for doing a 500 pcs jigsaw puzzle?
That’s such an interesting question! 🙂 I’m not really a big puzzle person—maybe because my home is small, my dog is very active, and there’s just no space for that kind of hobby? So the answer is: no, I haven’t tried.
- Are you a postcrosser? If yes how many postcards have you received?
Yes, I am! You can find my Postcrossing profile here: Salomeja on Postcrossing
Officially, I’ve received 4345 postcards so far — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I used to have a second profile and was very active in forum swaps and games for years. If I had to guess the real number? Probably double that.
- What is the perfect card FOR YOU?
For me, a perfect card is first and foremost a real postcard — not something printed on thin copy paper. I also love when it’s handwritten — including the address — even if the handwriting is totally impossible to read. There’s something special about knowing a real person held it, wrote on it, and sent it my way.
Design-wise, I’m drawn to illustrated cards, especially ones with a bit of sarcasm, gothic elements, or dark humor. Sweet is nice, but weird and witty? Even better.
- Which is your favorite postcard (from your shop)?
Don’t do this for me! Too hard to choose! But this looser, as nobody wants it even with almost 50% of 😀

- Do you have a favorite postcard you’ve received? Why is it your favorite? 🌷
With over 4,000 official postcards received, I don’t think I could possibly choose just one — it’s like asking someone to pick a favorite star in the sky.
Besides, my taste has changed over the years. Life changed. What made me smile when I first joined Postcrossing might not spark the same joy now. Some cards felt special because of the timing, some because of the message, and some… just because they were so unexpectedly me.
- What’s your favourite part about postcrossing?
My answer might sound a bit pragmatic, but honestly? I love how flexible it is.
It’s one of the few hobbies where you can fully control your spending. Bad month? Send one postcard. Good month? Send thirty. There’s no pressure to “keep up,” no seasonal break you’re forced into because life got busy or expensive.
And of course, there’s everything else we all love, the connection, the messages, the joy of finding something other than bills in the mailbox. But if you’re a postcrosser, you already know that part.
- What’s your favorite country to receive postcards from?
Germany! I know some Postcrossers like to joke about how often they get cards from Germany, but honestly, I love it.
German senders often choose beautiful postcards and take time to write warm, thoughtful messages. What’s not to love?
I’m actually not a big fan of touristy viewcards, and I’ve found that some of the more “exotic” countries tend to send those more often, so give me a nice illustrated card from Germany any day!
- Hello from a sunny Sweden 🥰. Are you postcrosser and snailmailer yourself?
Hi from rainy Lithuania! Yes!
- When and why did your passion for stationery and snail mail arise?
Back in my childhood, long before the internet (yes, some of us have lived that long 😄), it was common to publish your mailing address in magazines to find penpals. I know, it sounds dangerously unsafe now, but that’s how we did it!
That’s when I discovered the magic of mail. There was something incredibly exciting about getting a letter from someone far away, full of stories and little surprises.
Since then, in one form or another, I’ve always kept writing to someone or sending postcards. Once you fall in love with real mail, you never quite go back.
- Who would you send a letter to now if you knew they would write back?
My husband. 😊
- If stationery had a dating profile, what would your favorite item’s bio say?
“Slightly sarcastic. Loves long letters, dramatic fonts, and meaningful silences. Not here for trends, here for timeless paper romance. Will never ghost you (unless it’s a Halloween postcard).”
- Do you ever use your tongue while sticking the stamp? 😳
Sorry, but yes 🙂
- I still save the prettiest sticker for later… Do you do the same?
I do that not only with stickers or postcards, but also with books and qlothes.
- Do you ever find fun stationery stuff at thrift stores?
Not so offten as I would like, but yes, especialy in Christmas season.
- Are there any designs that you really liked / were proud of, but were a complete flop in sales? 🙈
Everything I’ve released this year? 😅 Just kidding. Kind of.
The truth is, I run a very small business with a very limited production budget. My profit margins are tiny, so before I release anything, I think it through carefully. Is it worth it? Will it find its people? If it makes it to the shop, it means I believe in it.
And yet… a lot of those carefully chosen, heartfelt designs don’t sell well. One example? My tote bags. I was so excited to release them, but they’re still patiently waiting for their forever homes.

So yes, I love them all. But sometimes, the feeling isn’t mutual. 😄
- Who are your artistic influences?
I don’t do much drawing myself, so I don’t really consider myself an “artist” in the traditional sense, but I am a creator. I choose, combine, and build designs with intention. And my biggest influences aren’t just illustrators, they’re small business owners.
These are the women who inspire me with their creativity, honesty, and the way they build their own little worlds. I wait for their Instagram posts, their YouTube updates, and I’m always happy to share their work:
- penpalingpaula.com — Paula was one of the people who inspired and encouraged me to dream of turning Favorite Postcard into a full-time job.
- apenasillustrator.com — I’ve been subscribed to her monthly boxes for a while now. Her warmth and style remind me that I can create new products, even from my small home studio not in big factories. (She’s the reason I dared to make bookmarks by my self!)
- emilycromwelldesigns.com — A lovely human being whose weekly packing videos have kept me company during your order packing sessions. That vibes, that colors! It sad she is not shopping her products to my country.
- blusheddesignsco.com — Mia from Canada keeps me believing that, yes, small business dreams are possible.
They’re proof that magic can be made in quiet studios with big hearts. And I really don’t mind sharing their websites because I believe that sharing is caring.
- I love world flags. Which is your favorite?
Fun question, but honestly, I don’t know!
Of course, I love the Lithuanian flag because, well… that’s home. We’re right in the heart of Europe, but our flag color palette leans more towards Africa, which I find kind of amusing. Bold, bright, and definitely easy to spot in a crowd!

And that’s a wrap on this Q&A series, thank you so much for every question, every comment, and for simply being curious about the person behind all the postcards and stickers.
Answering these felt a lot like writing back to old friends, a little silly, a little deep, sometimes messy, but always honest.
I’m always happy to continue the conversation, in the comments, in a DM, or even on a real postcard.
